Hi! I'm Laurie

Well gee whiz, where do I start? What do you need to know about me?

I was born with a good metabolism, so I've always been thin without having to learn any good food habits. I'm also of the age around the time of the invention of fast food. My relationship with diet and exercise was poor. I love food and I love to eat. My only connection with my future self was my joking about the pain I'd be in, one day, as an old person. Ha. Ha.

Oh, and by the way, your metabolism changes with age.

To compound the abuse of my gut health, I was hard on my body in other ways. I've had a pony accident, car accident, motorcycle accident, snowmobile accident, bicycle accident and then in 2013 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Ulcerative Colitis. It's shitty.

Of all my near death experiences, what came after the diagnosis was my real Coming To Jesus moment. I didn't feel so invincible all-of-sudden. I'm not much of big-pharma kind of girl and I decided that my health and wellness and quality of life were really important to me. These things I continued to take for granted, were now things I wanted to take responsibility over.

In 2016 I emerged from the hospital, hopped up on meds that I was determined to get off of and my long hair was like fur! I said to my hairstylist, cut it all off and give me something fun and lively. She cut it just below my ears and dyed it pink. New Laurie was born!

New Laurie identifies as Wonder Woman!

New Laurie is going to overcome the things that have always held her back in life. I will take this sick, weak, frail body and build a consciously healthy body and lifestyle.

I've learned things. I know things. It is my nature to want to mentor people who are looking for tools for their own battle. Especially those whose battle is similar to mine.

I'm not a fanatic. I only know two or three lentil recipes and I don't eat any quinoa. To date, as I sit here to write this, I've never completed a 30-day Pinterest fitness challenge and I haven't gone to the gym since my 20s. I do hike in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and I love to go on long walks with my hubby, which we don't do near enough.

Yet.

I've been focusing on what to feed myself and trying to change A LOT of what I think and feel about food and my health. I've been building my mind and body up to be able to complete a 30-day fitness challenge, which I've already begun. I already know it will take me more than 30 days to complete it, but I will complete it. See, not a fanatic!

So now you know that I'm not a doctor. I'm not a nutritionist. I don't diagnose, treat, cure, bla bla bla anything. I share the things that have worked for me in hopes they'll work for you. I post recipes and other things of value on social media, and I blog about all kinds of food issues, mostly my experiences, over at www.thefoodissue.wordpress.com.

I'm looking for people, women in particular, to run with. Not physically run, I hate running. It's a metaphor. But anyone who's committed to dramatically transforming their quality of life through their health and wellness. I'm looking for someone who is looking for a mentor, because what they've tried before hasn't clicked.

My fire is lit. I have tracks to run on. I have systems to follow. Let's do this.
